New to K-pop? The fandom vocabulary alone can feel like a second language. Here’s the cheat sheet we wish someone had handed us.
The essentials
- Bias: your favorite member. Your “bias wrecker” is the one threatening the ranking.
- Lightstick: the group’s official glowing stick — each fandom has its own design and color.
- Comeback: every new release cycle, not just returns after hiatus.
- Maknae: the youngest member; “leader” is self-explanatory; the “main vocal/dancer” are positions.
- Fanchant: the scripted call-and-response fans perform at shows.
Fan etiquette, briefly
Respect the airport rulebook (no crowding), don’t spread sasaeng content, and remember that fan wars are optional. Loving one group doesn’t require disliking another.
